Laura Howard beat teammate Asia Adell in a two-hole playoff to finish in first and give the Cal Poly womens golf team the championship at the inaugural PLNU Super San Diego Championship on Tuesday.
Howard and Adell both finished at 156 for the Mustangs after two days of play. Morgan Thomas shot a fifth-place 161 for Cal Poly, including a hole in one on the 147-yard 16th hole on day one.
Kristen Locke shot a 166, and Taylor Yoshitake added a 167 for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs won the team title with a four-player score of 634. Grand Canyon was second with 658, and Chico State finished third at 662.
Cuesta athletes of the month
Malte Kramer and Aria Johnson have been named the Cuesta College Athletes of the Month for January.
Kramer, of the mens basketball team, has led the Cougars to a to 20-7 record and an 8-1 mark in Western State Conference play with averages of 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Johnson is averaging just under 10 points per game and has the Cuesta womens basketball team at 13-11 and primed for a playoff run as the Cougars are seeking their first postseason bid in four years.
