Looking for a little exercise before vegging out on the couch this Super Bowl Sunday? For the 25th year, volunteers are being sought for trail work at Montaña de Oro State Park.
The event is being hosted by the Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers, in partnership with California State Parks.
According to CCCMB President Greg Bettencourt, volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the park headquarters above Spooner’s Cove. The workday will end no later than noon.
“Super Bowl Sunday is our largest work day of the year,” said Bettencourt. “It’s a great way to get outside and get some exercise before the big game.”
Trail users of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend, and no experience is necessary.
“Equestrians and hikers are especially welcome,” said Bettencourt. “CCCMB relies on participation from all types of trail users.”
The mountain bikers will provide a continental breakfast and will give away prizes through a random drawing. Drinks and snacks are also offered at the end of the workday.
Volunteers should wear work clothes (long sleeves and pants are best), solid shoes and gloves, and bring water. CCCMB will provide the tools, leadership and direction.
“We welcome and appreciate the public’s participation in trail work days,” said Nick Franco, State Parks superintendent of the San Luis Obispo Coast District. “We expect this project will be a benefit to the visitors and residents alike.”
