A part-time afterschool aide and tutor at Lillian Larsen School in San Miguel has pleaded not guilty to four counts of statutory rape, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorneys Office.
Sarah Drown, 20, was arraigned earlier this week in front of San Luis Obispo Superior Court Judge Barry LaBarbera.
Drown, of San Miguel, was arrested Jan. 27 after the San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Office received reports she allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student. Investigators said the alleged incident took place in November and just recently came to light.
She faces a maximum sentence of five years in custody.
Earlier this week, the San Miguel school district referred questions about Drown to San Luis Obispo County school Superintendent Julian Crocker, who said Drown was in her first year of employment with the district. She was being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail but posted bail Wednesday.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 15.
