"Foster families of the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services' Shelter are amazing. For example, last year more than 500 cats were in foster care. These felines never returned to the shelter because hundreds found homes at volunteer-hosted adopt-a-pets.
“And though a great success, there are many cats still in foster care.
“Take Jeffrey, he’s a 20-pound meatloaf of a cat with great house manners and a gentle disposition. Jeffrey’s so easygoing his foster mom trusts him to spend his days lounging in a room filled with fragile antiques. Jeffrey also likes being with people, enjoying getting and giving affection. Additionally, he’s been fine with other cats.
“But Jeffrey, and all the cats currently in foster care, need to find their lifelong homes ASAP. Fosters will soon be at a premium because of the staggering number of mom-cats with kittens, as well as orphaned kittens, that will soon be arriving at the shelter because of the high number of unaltered cats in our community.

The adoption fee is $75 for cats and $100 for dogs, plus a $23 county license fee for dogs if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents.
The adoption fee includes spay or neuter, basic vaccinations, microchip, eligibility for a free veterinarian check, new collar and ID tag, and carrier for cats.
Humane Society fund raiser
The North County Humane Society is seeking community members who would like to get involved with the local shelter. NCHS will hold the My Tails in Jail fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero.
Volunteer “jailbirds” will be “arrested” and have to call their friends and family to post bail of $500!
The purpose of the fundraiser is to help support ongoing operational costs for our no-kill cat shelter, adoption center, sanctuary and spay/neuter programs.
