A 56-year-old California Valley man accused of beating his former girlfriend was sentenced to seven years in state prison this week, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

Douglas Ray Flaata was sentenced Monday based on his plea of no contest to elder dependent adult abuse causing great bodily injury.

Deputies responded to the incident on Oct. 23 in California Valley off Highway 58 after getting an emergency call from Dixon Trail Road, a mile south of Soda Lake Road.

The woman, a 74-year-old who was not identified, had suffered serious injuries, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

Flaata has a restitution hearing scheduled in May in San Luis Obispo Superior Court. He remains in custody in San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.
