The National Weather Service has issued wind, high-surf and small-craft advisories, with a gale watch, affecting the Central Coast as of Sunday night and into Monday morning.

The wind advisory is in effect through noon Monday, and mostly applies to the North County, including Paso Robles and Atascadero areas.

The agency warns that south-to-southwest winds are expected to increase to 20 to 30 mph, with gusts to 40 to 45 mph late Sunday night and continue through Monday morning.

They’re forecast to shift northwest and then diminish some by Monday afternoon.

A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph or greater are expected, and that conditions could make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The agency’s high-surf advisory, affecting the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County coasts, is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters expect breakers 10 to 15 feet, beginning to subside slowly by late Monday.

The agency also warns that there would likely be strong rip currents near the breakers, making swimming or surfing more dangerous.

The Weather Service small-craft advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday in waters from Point Piedras Blancas north of Cambria to Point Arguello in northern Santa Barbara County.

A gale watch also is in effect in the same area from Monday morning through late Monday night.

Forecasters expect south winds of 15 to 20 knots, with local gusts to 35 knots Sunday night, becoming west and then northwest and increasing to 20 to 25 knots with possible gusts to 35 knots on Monday.

The Weather Service expects seas with a northwest swell of 9 to 12 feet at 14 seconds tonight, combining with locally generated seas building to 12 to 15 feet Monday.

A small-craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots are expected to produce hazardous conditions to small watercraft.

The agency cautions that inexperienced mariners avoid these conditions.

A gale watch means that the risk of winds between 34 to 47 knots has significantly increased.
