Guests have chosen the Atascadero Holiday Inn Express & Suites as one of the best overall internationally.
The local hotel, co-owned and managed by San Luis Obispo High School graduate Amar Sohi, is one of 24 properties that beat out 2,000 hotels competing for the honor within parent company InterContinental Hotel Group.
The 2011 Torchbearer Award is on display at the hotel at 9010 W. Front Road.
Last summer, the hotel received a similar honor within the chain’s regional territory. The most recent honor compared properties in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Cleanliness, comfort, service and safety were among the ranking factors, Sohi said. Multiple inspections and guest reviews also dictate who wins.
Sohi has run the 80-room Holiday Inn Express since it opened in 2008. He’s the former owner of Sandy’s Liquor & Deli in San Luis Obispo.
