Prep Roundup: Mission Prep boys basketball team stays on a roll by downing Cabrillo

The Mission Prep boys basketball team extended its winning steak to seven games Wednesday with a 66-58 home win over Cabrillo.

With Mission Prep leading just 13-10 after one quarter, the Royals took a 35-29 halftime lead and didn’t let up.

“In the first half we did a good job of breaking the press and being very aggressive,” Mission Prep coach Terrance Harris said. “But it was a close game the entire way, though. I give Cabrillo a ton of credit, they did not go away.”

Zach Allmon led the Royals (17-3) with 24 points, to go with his 10 rebounds.

Andy Rowley scored 17 points, while Connor Woolpert added 16 points for Mission Prep.

St. Joseph 71, Paso Robles 58

Josh Wilson-Murry’s 26 points weren’t enough to help the Bearcats (6-12, 1-4 PAC 7) past the Knights.

Ben Oliver scored 15 points for Paso Robles, and Matt Van Dyk added nine for the Bearcats, who trailed 43-19 at halftime.

Righetti 77, San Luis Obispo 49

The Warriors remained undefeated in the PAC 7 with their victory over the Tigers (8-9, 2-3 PAC 7).

Matt Moore was the lone Tigers player to reach double-figures in scoring with 12 points.

Atascadero 72, Pioneer Valley 51

The Greyhounds (13-6, 4-2 PAC 7) defeated the Panthers, breaking open a first-quarter tie by outscoring Pioneer Valley 41-19 in the second and third quarters combined.

Atascadero’s Hayden Mislavsky led all scorers with 20 points, Joe Johnson added 13, and both Robbie Berwick and Connor Kim each added 10.

Nipomo 46, Templeton 38

Scott Nichols had a team-high 17 points to help the Titans past the Eagles.

Tyler Eshenbach and Ryan McNeil both scored 12 points for Nipomo (6-14, 3-3 LPL), and McNeil had 13 rebounds.

For Templeton (6-13, 3-3 LPL), Andy Garrettson led with 13 points and five rebounds.

Morro Bay 79, Lompoc 67

Edward Griley’s game-high 21 points led Morro Bay (12-8, 5-1 LPL) in its victory over the Braves.

Griley also earned game-highs in blocks (5) and rebounds (15), while Luke Munds and Scott Milligan added 20 and 17 points, respectively.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Joseph 66, Paso Robles 48

The Bearcats couldn’t overcome a six-point fourth quarter and allowed St. Joseph’s Kaitlyn Flowers to explode for 37 points in their third straight loss to drop to 1-4 in the PAC 7 and 8-10 overall.

The Knights (4-14, 3-2 PAC 7) also had 10 points from Tatiana Dunlap.

Paso Robles’ Molly Donovan scored a team-high 27 points, the only Bearcat to reach double figures.

Atascadero 50, Pioneer Valley 41

Mary Kate Evans led the Greyhounds over the Panthers with her 23-point performance.

Casey Nero added 12 points for Atascadero (12-6, 5-1 PAC 7).

Righetti 38, San Luis Obispo 29

Erica Chandler had a team-high 11 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Tigers (8-9, 1-4 PAC 7) to get past Righetti.

Morro Bay 54, Lompoc 21

Hannah Gilbert led the Pirates with 23 and 13 rebounds as Morro Bay remained undefeated in league play.

Nicki Bloom also scored nine points for the Pirates (13-3, 6-0 LPL), and Caitlyn Cowardin scored eight.

Templeton 55, Nipomo 38

Marissa Torres scored a team-high 24 points, and the Eagles defeated the Titans.

Mari Stewart added eight points for Templeton (14-6, 5-1 LPL), and Jeanine Madson scored seven.

Jessica Miller scored a team-high 12 points for Nipomo (1-17, 1-5 LPL).

Mission Prep 72, Cabrillo 22

All five Royals starters scored in double figures as they defeated the Conquistadores.

Jenna Dunbar led Mission Prep with a game-high 18 points, while Kaylee Williams scored 14 and Connor Storlie, Morgan Liebscher and Bri Harvey each added 10.

Dunbar grabbed a game-high five steals, while Liebscher and Williams each tallied a game-high seven rebounds.

BOYS SOCCER

Paso Robles 3, St. Joseph 3, tie

Brian Mercado scored two goals as the Bearcats tied the Knights.

Angel Garcia also scored, and Junior Rodriguez had five saves for Paso Robles (9-2-6, 3-1-1 PAC 7).

San Luis Obispo 4, Righetti 1

The Tigers (12-1-2, 5-0 PAC7) scored three goals in the first 20 minutes to defeat the Warriors and preserve their undefeated league record.

Matt Connely, Paul Sullivan and Trevor James each scored in the first half for San Luis Obispo.

Righetti scored its only goal with six minutes left in the first half, before Jordan Knauer capped off the win with the final goal in the second half.

Goalie Michael Lambert had six saves for the Tigers.

Pioneer Valley 3, Atascadero 0

The Greyhounds (3-11-2, 1-5 PAC 7) could not find any offensive rhythm in the loss to the Panthers.

Atascadero goalie David Hernandez had eight saves, including one save on a penalty shot.

GIRLS SOCCER

Righetti 1, San Luis Obispo 0

The Warriors shut out the Tigers (12-4-3, 3-1-1 PAC7), scoring the game-winning goal with 28 minutes remaining.

San Luis Obispo goalie Lauren Harper had seven saves.

Paso Robles 2, St. Joseph 2, tie

Down 2-0 at halftime, the Bearcats forced the Knights into a tie with late-game goals from Emilee Brown and Danica Boggs.

Goalie Carly McCall had seven saves for Paso Robles.

Mission Prep 7, Dunn 3

The Royals had six different players score as they defeated Dunn.

Kelly Scharlach scored two goals for Mission Prep (9-5). Jessa Culver, Victoria Gill, Meghan Martin, Sydney Rathjens and Annabel Scott all added a goal as well.
