Fire departments throughout San Luis Obispo County are conducting a training exercise at Meridian Vineyards off Highway 46 East in Paso Robles today.
The effort is a joint exercise with local fire crews and the countys Urban Search and Rescue and Hazmat teams.
About 60 members of local emergency personnel are training on topics such as confined space rescues and hazardous material scenarios to practice identifying materials and entering hazardous scenes, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Lee said.
They are also working on high-angle rope rescues atop the winerys large fermentation tanks to practice rescues from tall spaces.
Its an opportunity for us to get together and hone our skills, he said.
About 15 pieces of equipment are also involved in the daylong drill, including fire engines and Hazmat vehicles.
