A Grover Beach man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of drunken driving after his vehicle veered off southbound Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande and crashed into a ditch.
At 2:35 a.m., Timothy Cuskelly, 55, drove his 2008 Volvo off the highway and down an embankment just south of Brisco Road, according to the CHP.
When the vehicle reached the bottom, its front end struck a four-foot ditch, and the car rolled to the drivers side. Cal Fire had to cut through Cuskellys crushed car to get him out, according to the CHP.
He was taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital with a fractured neck, brain hemorrhaging and lacerations on his head. His condition wasnt immediately available Wednesday.
Cuskelly was alone in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
The CHP plans to seek misdemeanor DUI charges against him.
