San Luis Obispo police are looking for a couple who stole a wallet from a Costco shopper Jan. 7 and used her credit and debit cards to make a series of fraudulent purchases.
At noon Jan. 7, the customer’s wallet was taken from her purse, which was sitting atop her shopping cart. She noticed the theft when she went to check out.
At about the same time, the victim’s credit card company called and told her the card was used to make $2,800 worth of purchases at the Target store in San Luis Obispo. The suspects then used the debit card at the Apple Store to make $1,800 in purchases.
Target’s security cameras videotaped the two suspects when they were in the store and exiting with their fraudulent purchases. They are described as a woman 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds and a man about the same age standing 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds.
Police are asking for help in identifying the suspects. There have been several similar cases in the past two years, police say.
Police remind people to not leave personal items unattended in shopping carts. Anyone with information about the identity of the suspects is asked to call 781-7317.
