Sharon Williams, right, and her cousin Shaleen Cullors find some photos of their relatives displayed on the African-Americans on the Central Coast historical photo essay before the start of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at the Paso Robles Senior Center on Friday night.
Paso Robles celebrated the efforts of King with a peace march and art. Paso Robles High Schools Gay-Straight Alliance and Students Against Violence Everywhere took part in the evening event, which also featured a choir performance and speakers. A mural of a painted rainbow created by local youths was used as a backdrop for the celebration. Rainbows represent diversity, which is a huge part of Mr. Kings message, city recreation services manager Lynda Holt said. Kings birthday will be observed Monday as a national holiday.
