An adult male transient was found dead along the Salinas River in Paso Robles on Thursday morning, police said in a statement.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the man hadn't been identified but other transients in the area told police that he had been living in a
transient camp along the river, Paso Robles Police Lt. Ty Lewis said.
It appeared that the man had been dead a week or longer, Lewis added.
Around 10:55 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the dry riverbed area after another transient reported seeing a dead body in a transient camp on the west side of the riverbank near Sulfur Springs Road, Lewis said in a news release.
Police dont suspect foul play and say it appears he died of natural causes.
The body was in the advanced stages of decomposition, Lewis said.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Coroner is now working to identify the man and will conduct an autopsy.
