After an undefeated start in Western State Conference play, the Cuesta College mens basketball team hit its first hiccup of the conference schedule.
Reigning conference player of the week Malte Kramer failed to score a basket in the first half, and the Cougars (14-7, 2-1 WSC) fell to the Moorpark Raiders 75-66 on Wednesday.
Kramer would end up scoring nine points in the second half but fouled out with 12 minutes left in the game.
With Kramer out, Cuestas Calen Coleman took over. He led the Cougars with 14 points despite playing through an ankle injury. Nick Sauer was the next closest scorer with 11 points.
Marc Hopkinson scored 10.
It appeared that they wanted it more than us. We came out flat, Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said. We know that we have to take care of those type of teams. Those things are what you try to avoid as a coach. Hopefully our players know that cant happen again.

Alyssa Palma led the Cuesta womens basketball team with a game-high 21 points, but it was not enough to defeat Moorpark, as the Raiders edged the Cougars 67-56.
Cuesta (9-9, 1-2 WSC) fell to an early 19-point deficit with 16 first-half turnovers, and Moorpark capitalized with 57 percent field-goal shooting.
Other top Cuesta scorers included Katie Sheldon with 12 points, and Katie Rodriguez with eight points and five steals.
