U.S. Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, and a variety of other officials will kick off a program Thursday designed to help low-income residents with their taxes.
Capps will talk about the Central Coast Tax Coalition, which she calls a prime example of what can be accomplished when our community works together and thinks creatively.
She will be joined by Dave Christy, dean of Cal Poly's Orfalea College of Business; Connie Stewart, IRS territory manager; Rusty Roy, director of Cal Poly's Low Income Taxpayer Clinic; and representatives of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program.
The meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cal Poly PAC Pavilion.
In a news release, Capps wrote that the program has been so successful in helping low-income individuals and families on the Central Coast access tax preparation services and federal tax credits.
