Jim Patterson replaced Adam Hill as chairman of the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning, as the board reorganized. Supervisors chose Paul Teixeira to serve as vice chairman.
Commenting on the past year, Hill praised county employees for making sacrifices to allow the county to balance its budget without laying off any workers.
Hill also outlined other accomplishments that he said “isn’t always the sexiest stuff for news coverage,” and therefore may not be generally known.
Among other things, Hill cited solar projects in the Carrizo Plain that are already creating hundreds of jobs; acquiring funds to help fight homelessness; and progress on such projects as the Willow Road interchange in Nipomo, the Los Osos sewer, and the Nacimiento water project.
Patterson concurred, adding during his coming year as chairman “the fiscal challenges we face are not going away.”
Hill was sometimes criticized during his year as chairman for being too heavy-handed with the gavel, and seeking to stifle discussion. He denied those complaints.
