Cal Polys mens basketball team earned its first Big West Conference win Saturday night with a 73-67 victory over Cal State Fullerton at Mott Gym.
Chris Eversley came off the bench and led the Mustangs (10-6, 1-2 Big West) with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Former Morro Bay High star Dylan Royer added 12 points and made all three of his 3-pointers. Amaurys Fermin (11 points) and David Hanson (10) also scored in double figures for the Mustangs.
The Titans (10-5, 2-2) held an early 9-7 lead but Cal Poly broke the game open with an 18-0 run, highlighted by seven points from Maliik Love, as the Mustangs took a 25-9 lead with 10:47 left in the first half.
The gap peaked at 22 early in the second half and was still 70-57 with 58 seconds to play before the Titans closed with a rush. Cal Poly only shot 31 percent from the floor in the second half.
Kwame Vaughn scored 18 points, and D.J. Seeley had 14 for the Cal State Fullerton (10-5, 2-2), which dropped its second in a row.
WOMENS BASKETBALL
Cuesta 86, Allan Hancock 78
Five players scored in double figures in the Cougars home victory over the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Anika Bauermeister led Cuesta (9-8, 2-0 Western State Conference) with 22 points and five assists, and Katie Sheldon had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Katie Rodriguez and Rachael Warner each scored 13 points for the Cougars, and Alyssa Palma had 12 points.
Leading 37-27 at halftime, Cuesta held off a late-game surge from Allan Hancock by shooting 66 percent from the field in the second half.
The Bulldogs had four players foul out and finished the game with only four players.
