A 63-year-old Morro Bay woman is in jail on suspicion of attempted murder and elder abuse after allegedly beating her elderly mother Monday.
Police were called to the home of the 86-year-old woman after neighbors heard her crying for help just after 3 a.m.

Police said Susanna Dyer walked into her mother’s room where she was sleeping and attacked her.
The alleged victim had several bruises on the side of her face and back, scrapes and several small cuts on her arms, said Morro Bay police Detective Dale Cullum.
The alleged victim had a restraining order against Dyer for a similar incident in the Los Angeles area, where she lived until about a year ago. However, police said it appeared Dyer had been living at the home with her mother. No one else resided there.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been involved, Cullum said.
It was the first time police have been called to the home.
The alleged victim has been relocated to an undisclosed location with family members.
Further investigation also showed that Dyer had been financially abusing her mother, Cullum said.
Dyer, who remains in County Jail in lieu of posting $500,000 bail, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, battery, elder abuse and contempt of court for violating the restraining order.
