Santa Paula man arrested after multi-county car burglary spree

Published: January 5, 2012

Pismo Beach police have arrested a 31-year-old Santa Paula resident in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries over the past week and a half in several counties, including San Luis Obispo County.

Jason Kohr was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felony auto theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a concealed firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of burglary tools, according to police.

Kohr, who is currently on parole for auto theft, is being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $70,000 bail.

Kohr was arrested in the Shell Beach area after Pismo Beach police officers noticed that a car window had been smashed and some vehicle doors were ajar. He was located in a stolen vehicle, said police Sgt. Steve Weir.

“We have a car stuffed to its gills with property,” Weir said. “We’ve got victims right now as far south as Ventura.”

Items recovered include computers, iPhones, cameras, surfboards — including one custom board stolen in Santa Barbara County — and a firearm.
