On one side, Izzy looks like a cat on top of the world. Shes a happy 4-month-old tabby in swirls of gray and black with fashionable white socks and a blaze. Izzy likes to play with toys, enjoys the company of other cats, and has charming people-skills whether purring contently as a lap cat or happily seeking affection.
On the other side, its clear Izzys life hasnt always been easy.
A month ago, a good Samaritan contacted San Luis Obispo County Animal Services concerned about a household with many cats in poor condition. An officer investigated and determined it was animal neglect, bordering on cruelty.
Izzy came from that household. One of her eyes shows evidence of an untreated trauma. This trauma necessitates the eyes removal. Being oneeyed, Izzy will be just like any other cat, though, she will be more vulnerable to predators and traffic so her ideal adopter is someone looking for an indoor cat.
Many homeless pets come to the shelter needing medical care whether its an injury due to being hit by a car, malnutrition or the result of neglect. Funding relies on community donations. Individuals can help by contributing to the Animal Shelters ARF fund. Taxdeductible donations can be made at the shelter or mailed to: SLO County Animal Services ARF, P.O. Box 4110, SLO, CA 93403.
And if youre looking for a loving indoor kitty, consider Izzy, a one-eyed cat whos on top of the world and seeking lifelong shelter.
