The Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce 2011 Citizen of the Year is seldom seen without her camera.
Vivian Krug has served as the unofficial photographer — as well as a board member, and sometimes publicity manager — for the South County Historical Society, the Arroyo Grande Village Improvement Association, and the Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Vivian on several projects and I’m always amazed by Vivian’s boundless energy,” Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce President Judith Bean wrote in an email. “She is a complete dynamo. A lot of what she does is behind the scenes, so you’d never know the amount of dedication and hard work that went into it.”
Krug also volunteered with a committee last year that celebrated the 100th anniversary of California women securing the right to vote; she shot more than 3,000 photos of events celebrating Arroyo Grande’s centennial; and she serves with the South County Police Volunteer program.
Krug owns Emotions Greeting Cards and works for the San Luis Obispo County Housing Trust Fund.
Krug said she was shocked that she was selected.
“I don’t do anything more than anyone else is doing in these groups,” she said. “They’re all team efforts.”
The Arroyo Grande chamber has also selected Lisa Ray to receive the Ken Talley Award, given to an organization or person who has made a strong contribution to character-building programs for youth.
Ray is president and CEO of the Children’s Resource Network of the Central Coast — formerly known as Lisa Ray’s Donation Group — a homegrown nonprofit that she founded about 2½ years ago on a shoestring budget.
During that time, Ray’s organization has gone from helping one single mom’s children to outfitting more than 3,500 children and teens from Lompoc to Cambria.
The Ken Talley Award includes a $500 donation to the Children’s Resource Network of the Central Coast.
The two women will be honored during the chamber’s 51st annual dinner Jan. 26. The event starts at 5 p.m. at the South County Regional Center, 800 W. Branch St.
Tickets are $55 each and can be purchased by calling the chamber at 489-1488.
