In a separate collision, 21-year-old Vincent Michael Mack was killed after the vehicle he was driving struck a large oak tree east of Nacimiento Lake at 8:50 a.m., according to the CHP.
The 3 a.m. crash happened on Linne Road, west of Long Hill Place. CHP officials said Paso Robles resident Eric Michael Luth, 20, was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup west on Linne Road when he reportedly passed a slower vehicle, drifted onto the shoulder and then struck several mailboxes.
The pickup then veered left across the eastbound lane of Linne Road, left the roadway and overturned. The 19-year-old passenger, who has not been identified, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the Ford.
The vehicle then struck a large oak tree and landed on the man, causing fatal injuries, according to the CHP.
Luth was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton with major injuries. Another passenger, 18-year-old Erin Ju Chon of Paso Robles, was not injured.
CHP officials suspect that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash; the investigation is ongoing.
The second crash happened as Mack of Paso Robles was driving a Kia Rio north on Nacimiento Lake Drive, just north of Gateway Drive, when the vehicle drifted across the southbound lane onto a dirt shoulder and hit a large oak tree.
Mack was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a CHP news release. Its unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash.
