The “big three” of Kaylee Williams, Jenna Dunbar and Bri Harvey led the Mission Prep girls basketball team to a 53-42 victory over Yosemite High on Friday in the championship game of the “NCAA Division II” bracket of the So Cal Holiday Classic in San Diego. Harvey led the 12-1 Royals with 16 points, and Williams and Dunbar added 14 apiece.

“When our big three score in double figures,” coach John Krossa said, “good things are going to happen.”

Mission Prep jumped out to a 9-0 start, outscored Yosemite 22-10 in the second-quarter and held a 31-14 halftime lead. Williams and Dunbar each finished Mission Prep’s 4-0 tournament run with 58 points, with Williams winning the tournament’s MVP award.

BOYS BASKETBALL Merv Lopes Classic in Honolulu

The Mission Prep boys basketball team survived a 27-15 fourth-quarter rally and, despite losing three players in that period to an injury and foul trouble, won 71-70 to advance to today’s consolation championship game.

The Royals (11-3) had to overcome losing forward Connor Woolpert (a team-best 28 points) to a fourth-quarter injury and having Cal Poly signee Zach Allmon and Tyler Baty foul out.

Estancia Coast Classic in Costa Mesa

San Luis Obispo ended the tournament with a 75-49 win over Schurr of Montebello, thanks to a game-high 22 points from Matt Moore. Carlson Schwoerer added 14 points, as nine different Tigers (7-5) scored.

WRESTLING

Nipomo took 16th place out of 42 teams at The Bash at West Hills College in Lemoore, thanks to Jason Costa’s seventh-place finish at 220 pounds and Tom Saenz’s eighth-place showing at 182.

Costa had five pins to finish with a 5-2 record, and Saenz went 4-3 with four pins.

BOYS SOCCER Buena High Tournament in Ventura

Paso Robles suffered its first defeat of the season in a consolation game of the Buena High Tournament, as the Bearcats fell 3-0 to Camarillo. The Bearcats (6-1-5) were in the consolation brackets because they tied twice during the tournament.
