A Bakersfield man has been arrested on suspicion of carjacking and other charges, the Pismo Beach Police Department has reported.
Police said Charles Shannon Ravert, 40, was stopped Wednesday on Highway 166 by the California Highway Patrol, as he was fleeing the scene of his alleged crimes, which also included theft of a vehicle and brandishing a firearm.
According to a news release, police were called to the 500 block of Cypress Avenue to respond to a report of a carjacking. They were told that Ravert had brandished the firearm and told an alleged victim he was taking the vehicle.
Ravert fled the scene, but the CHP spotted him on Highway 166, at which point Ravert lost control and crashed, according to police.
The CHP took him into custody and turned him over to Pismo Beach police.
Ravert was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, brandishing a firearm, theft of a vehicle, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. He's being held at County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
