Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, has written the chief executive of Spanish-language television station owner Entravision expressing concern over the pending cancellation of its nightly news program.
In a letter to Walter Ulloa, who is also Entravisions chairman, Capps asked that he find some way to keep Noticias Costa Central airing on KPMR, channel 38 on cable and 21 on the air.
She called the program a primary source of information about critical local government and community services for Latino households.
The Univision network affiliate, with studios in Santa Maria, announced earlier this month that the news programs final air date would be Dec. 30, citing the cost of producing the show.
KTAS, the San Luis Obispo-based Telemundo network affiliate, would have the remaining Spanish-language nightly news program, Noticiero 33.
