Memorial | Remembering Ira Hughes

Hundreds of people, including about 50 Eagle Scouts, gathered Friday, Dec. 23, to remember Ira Hughes, a longtime resident whose 1975 purchase of a bike shop in downtown Arroyo Grande cemented his unique role in the community.

Hughes, 58, died Dec. 15. He was diagnosed earlier this year with a grade-four tumor called glioblastoma, a type of aggressive cancer that affects the brain.
