Nicki Bloom scored a team-high nine points, and the Morro Bay High girls basketball team defeated Los Alamitos 35-26 to advance to the semifinals of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
Both Hannah Gilbert and Sierra Schwellenbach scored eight points for Morro Bay (7-2).
Gilbert also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, and Schwellenbach had four assists and three steals.
The Pirates will play Valencia or Pacifica in todays semifinals.
Also in the tournament, Arroyo Grande lost to Orange Lutheran, falling victim to a late overtime run to lose 56-46.
Heather Madrigal led the Eagles (7-3) with 19 points, while Lindsey Wolf scored nine points.
Nipomo (1-13) fell to La Salle, 67-35. Patton Mass led the Titans with eight points. Dianna Krischezesky added six points.
Nipomo will play Santa Ynez today at Dos Pueblos.
BOYS SOCCER
South Torrance Tournament
Arroyo Grande (6-6-2) lost to Banning, 2-1.
Chris Herrera scored off a deflected shot for the Eagles. Alex Montero had three goalie saves for Arroyo Grande.
Unfortunately, the game today was given up in the first half. Arroyo Grande coach Brad Bowdey said. We hit every post there was.
Nipomo (3-8-3) lost to Mira Costa, 2-1.
Kenny Cromer scored the only goal for the Titans off an assist from Caleb Doane.
Nipomo goalie Erubey Ponce had eight saves.
This tournament had a lot of qualities teams and it was good to play teams we dont usually play, Nipomo coach Billy Vinnege said. It was a good opportunity to get ready for league.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Joseph/Cabrillo Tournament
Arroyo Grande split its matchups, falling to Cabrillo 3-0 and defeating San Marcos 3-2.
Mallory Flatebo scored all three goals for Arroyo Grande (5-2).
The tournament concludes today.
