An unidentified man attacked a female runner in rural San Luis Obispo early Tuesday morning.
The woman told authorities she was attacked from behind while she was running on the southern outskirts of San Luis Obispo on Vachell Lane off Buckley Road at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Her name was not disclosed.
According to a news release, the woman told authorities she saw the man approaching her as she stopped to adjust her running equipment.
When she began running again she was suddenly grabbed from behind with a hand over her mouth.
The woman reportedly spun around and hit the man with her iPod, after which he backed away. Then she began yelling, authorities said.
The woman then continued running toward the city limits and called 911.
San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs deputies checked the surrounding area but didnt locate the suspect. He is described as a man in his late
20s to early 30s, 5-feet, 8 inches tall, with a stocky build and dark hair. He was said to be wearing a black beanie, black parka and long
shorts in a blue and white plaid pattern.
Anyone who may have seen the suspect in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP.
