A Santa Clara-based firm has been selected from a pool of 15 applicants to design the new Uptown Family Park in Paso Robles that could begin construction as soon as fall 2012.
In August, the city sought proposals for the 1.3-acre site to be constructed at 36th and Oak streets.
In late 2010, the city received a nearly $2.6 million grant to cover the total cost to design and build the park, according to the city.
Verde Design Inc. was selected for its ability to meet grant requirements such as having creativity, technical know-how and ample experience in budgets, scheduling, sustainability and maintenance, according to the city.
The firm’s concept proposal shows a park with youth play equipment for various ages, including areas for kids to play in water, have picnics and run in open space.
Ataff is currently negotiating on the contract’s price. Design fees are usually 10 to 13 percent of the total construction costs, according to the city.
The Paso Robles City Council’s decision Tuesday also included a $12 per year, 30-year lease with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, which owns the park site.
