A judge on Monday ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed to trial against a San Luis Obispo man accused of assaulting and torturing a homeless woman in March.
Tommy Sherrell Ledbetter appeared before San Luis Obispo Superior Court Judge Jacquelyn Duffy for a preliminary hearing.

He’s accused of 11 crimes, including torture, assault, criminal threats, possession of drugs for sale, and robbery.
San Luis Obispo police had been on the lookout for Ledbetter after they were notified April 1 about a homeless woman who had been assaulted the night of March 30 at 145 South St. in San Luis Obispo.
The woman was found walking through the neighborhood with lacerations and bruising to her head, chest and arms, according to police.
Ledbetter was arrested about midnight April 6 when officers saw him walking through a cemetery on South Higuera Street.
Police say he had methamphetamine and a prescription narcotic with him at the time of arrest. Ledbetter remains in custody in the San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
