Cal Poly guard Matt Titchenal scored a career-high 16 points, going a perfect 4 for 4 from 3-point range, and the Cal Poly basketball team defeated San Jose State 47-40 on the road Saturday.

Titchenal, who had never scored more than nine points in a game, was the only Cal Poly scorer in double figures. Will Taylor was the next closest with eight points, guard Drake U’u scored seven points and forward David Hanson had five.
The Mustangs shot 33 percent from the field and sank 7 of 24 shots from behind the 3-point arc.
It’s the second win this season over the Spartans for the Mustangs, who have started the year 6-3 — the best record among all Big West teams so far in nonconference play.
Anike Bauermeister scored 20 points, Kati Sheldon had 15 points and 13 rebounds and the Cougars (7-4) defeated Mendocino in the consolation bracket final of the Allan Hancock Tournament in Santa Maria.
Down 65-59 with 1:09 left in regulation, Alyssa Palma, who had 17 points in the game, nailed a 3-pointer for Cuesta to cut the lead to 65-62. After a Mendocino free throw upped the score to 66-62, Bauermeister converted a three-point play to cut the lead to one.
Palma then stole the ball on the next possession and dished it to Rachael Warner, who was fouled and hit one of two free throws to tie the score and send it into overtime.
In overtime, the Cougars outscored Mendocino 12-7.
Aria Johnson had 12 points and eight rebounds for Cuesta.
Cuesta’ Jonathon Gay and Dale Fuller lost in the second-round of wrestlebacks at the state meet in Santa Rosa.
Gay lost to Santa Rosa’s Aaron Pen Kruger 5-3 at 133 pounds, and West Hills’ Jeff Monteirro pined Fuller at 197 pounds.
