The homeless in North County will have a warming center to help them deal with the cold beginning Dec. 12.
Fathers House church, at 2100 Ramona Road in Atascadero, will host the shelter and the El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) will provide food, staff, supplies, and transportation to and from the ECHO shelter.
The center can take in 15 people a night. It will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on any night when the temperature drops to 32 degrees or when there is rain.
The ECHO homeless shelter at 6370 Atascadero Mall also is open nightly year-round.
The Deputy Sheriffs Association (DSA) has donated $2,500 to support the center. Those who work with the homeless continue to seek volunteers and donations.
Adam Hill, chairman of the county Board of Supervisors, thanked DSA and its members on behalf of the board for their generosity and commitment to public service by donating funds to ECHO to help those most in need.
Those who want to volunteer or donate should call the shelter at 462-3663.or Charlotte Byrne at 466-0678.
