Prep Roundup: Templeton, Atascadero, Mission Prep among girls basketball tourney winners

Lauren Stuedemann led the Templeton High girls basketball team past San Luis Obispo 50-37 in the Perry Ford Tournament on Thursday night, which is co-hosted by San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay.

Stuedemann had 19 points, six steals, six blocks, and four assists for the Eagles (4-2). Templeton had a big second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 16-4.

Marissa Torres was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11 points. Sisters Mari and Brooke Stewart each had eight rebounds.

Erica Chandler had 12 points for the Tigers (2-5), and Christine Freberg added 10 points.

Emily Boege and MaryKate Evans each scored 14 points as Atascadero (3-2) defeated Carson 57-48.

Casey Nero and Zayra Solorzano each had seven points, and Taylor Messer had six for the Greyhounds.

Morro Bay defeated Bakersfield 45-21, led by Hannah Gilbert who scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Pirates (2-0). Sierra Schwellenbach added 13 points and five steals for Morro Bay.

Mission Prep erased a five-point, fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Righetti 47-45.

Jenna Dunbar scored 20 points, and Kaylee Williams and Bri Harvey added 12 each for the Royals (5-1).

Arroyo Grande fell 67-66 to Centennial on two lastminute free throws from Centennial’s Lisa Marie Sanchez, who had 28 points.

Heather Madrigal scored a game-high 36 points for the Eagles to go with her 11 rebounds.

Brianna Flood had 12 and Emma Weinreich had eight for Arroyo Grande, which plays Saturday against Ridgeview. Paso Robles defeated Nipomo 59-33, led by Molly Donovan, who had a team-high 24 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Joseph 84, North Co. Christian 20

Daniel Katches had a team-high 10 points as the Crusades (1-3) fell in the Coast Union/Paso Robles Tournament.

Morro Bay 73, Hoover 66

Marcus Zorovich had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pirates (3-4) to the victory over the defending CIF-Central Section champions in the Coast Union/Paso Robles Tournament.

Bryce Owens had 17 points, and Edward Griley had 14 for Morro Bay.

Arroyo Grande Optimist Tournament

Zach Allmon scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Mission Prep (5-0) over Atascadero (3-2) in their first-round matchup.

Connor Woolpert added 22 points as well, and Andy Rowley and Mike Cardwell scored five each for the Royals.

Mission Prep got it going early, building a 34-18 lead at halftime, and survived a 20-point Greyhound fourth quarter to hold on to victory.

Rob Berwick had a game-high 25 points for Atascadero, which plays Bakersfield Christian today at 10 a.m.

Arroyo Grande (1-2) fell to Santa Barbara 57-44 despite a game-high 24 points from Gunnar Gomez, who hit six 3-pointers. Dylan Brigham had six points for the Eagles.

Templeton 52, King City 32

The Eagles (1-5) finally got their football players back for basketball and they immediately gave Templeton its first win of the season.

Andy Garrettson had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Alex Elterman had 11 points in their season debuts.

Alex Kotheimer had team-high five assists as the Eagles outscored King City in every quarter. Daniel Clower and Eric Fragione each had six points.

BOYS SOCCER

Arroyo Grande 2, Morro Bay 0

James Lang and Chris Herrera scored first-half goals to lead the Eagles (3-4-1).

San Luis Obispo 4, Santa Ynez 4, tie

Travis Caldwell scored his second goal of the game for the Tigers right before the final whistle to even the score against the Pirates.

Paul Sullivan also scored two goals for San Luis Obispo, one off an assist from Caldwell.

Paso Robles 3, Cabrillo 1

Angel Garcia, Brian Mercado and Angel Guevara all had a goal for the the Bearcats (5-0-3).

Junior Rodriguez had six saves in goal for Paso Robles.

GIRLS SOCCER

Nipomo 2, Viewpoint 1

Silvia DeLeon and Maricruz Aredalo both scored first-half goals to lead the Titans (2-2-1) to a victory in their first game at Grace Brethren’s Winter Lancer Tournament in Simi Valley.

Brianna Gonzalez had 10 saves in goal for Nipomo.

Arroyo Grande 7, Morro Bay 0

Mallory Flatebo had a hat trick and two assists, as the Eagles (3-1) powered past the Pirates.

Arroyo Grande was up 5-0 at the half.

Freshman Jane Summers had two goals and an assist. Hannah Chandless, Yezi Romero, and Kina Lang also scored. Goalie Mikayla Allen did not need to make a save to record the shutout.

Atascadero 1, Lompoc 0

The Greyhounds (4-0) continued their undefeated start with a first-half goal by Hannah McMillan to beat Lompoc on the road.

Cabrillo 1, Paso Robles 0

Despite being outshot, Cabrillo managed a first-half goal and that was enough for the Conquistadores. The Bearcats fell to 2-1-1.

GIRLS WATER POLO

San Luis Obispo 11, Santa Ynez 7

Kacie Gin and Elizabeth Waddell scored four goals each for the Tigers (4-4), who closed the game on a 7-3 run in the second half.

Kimi McCarty, Ariana Shakibnia and Becca Teng scored one goal apiece for San Luis Obispo, and Zoe Berkowitz added eight saves in goal.

Nipomo 10, Atascadero 9

Claire Leaong had five goals, Kylie Ferree scored two, and Erin Morey and Emma Seitzer scored one each for the Greyhounds (3-3).

No Nipomo information was provided.

Mira Costa 7, Arroyo Grande 5

Katie Sverchek scored twice, and Madison Ochotorena, Alexis Elias and Hannah Kope scored one goal each for the Eagles.
