Prep Roundup: Templeton downs Paso Robles in OT in girls basketball

The Eagles receive 17 points and 9 steals from Marissa Torres in 55-53 victory; in other Perry Ford Tournament results, Arroyo Grande takes two, and San Luis Obispo and Atascadero both win

Templeton High defeated Paso Robles 55-53 in overtime in a girls basketball game of the Perry Ford Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.

The tournament is being held at Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo highs.

The Eagles’ Marissa Torres tied the score at 47 with a basket in the last seconds of the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime, and Lauren Studeman scored the last points of the game, sinking a pair of free throws to clinch the victory for Templeton.

Torres finished with a game-high 17 points and nine steals, while Studeman added 14 points. Brooke Stewart and Maury Stewart led the Eagles with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.

For Paso Robles, Molly Donovan had 12 points, while Jackie Caraveo added nine on a game-high three 3-pointers.

Arroyo Grande (4-1) won its doubleheader with a 53-24 victory over Lompoc and a 59-34 win over Carson.

The Eagles’ Emma Weinreich was the leading scorer in both games with 21 points against Lompoc and 22 against Carson.

Atascadero (2-2) narrowly defeated Bakersfield 43-37 behind Kate Evans’ game-high 12 points.

Trailing most of the first half, Atascadero outscored Bakersfield 19-8 in the third quarter to take the lead.

San Luis Obispo (2-4) held Santa Maria to just seven total points in the middle two quarters in its 62-50 victory over the Saints. Erica Chandler led the Tigers with a game-high 24 points.

Mission Prep (4-1) defeated Centennial 68-43, handing the Golden Hawks their first loss of the season.

The Royals led 42-21 at halftime and never relinquished their lead. Kaylee Williams led Mission Prep with a game-high 22 points, and Jenna Dunbar added 20 points.

Nipomo (0-5) was left searching for its first win of the season after a 52-30 loss against Righetti.

Warriors center Mariah Cooks overpowered the Titans with a game-high 25 points, while no Nipomo players earned double-figure points.

BOYS SOCCER

Mission Prep 1, Bishop Diego 1, tie

The Royals (0-4-1) avoided their fifth straight loss of the season by earning the tie.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Mission Prep’s Jack Mooney scored an unassisted goal in the opening minutes of the second half.

Royals goalkeeper Peter Bertleson earned six saves.
