Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo nets boys basketball win over Morro Bay

The San Luis Obispo High boys basketball team defeated Morro Bay 58-46 at home on Tuesday in its season opener.

Matt Moore led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points, and Scott Inman added 15 for the Tigers, who held just a one-point lead after three quarters at 36-35.

“We’re really happy with the way we came out in the first game,” San Luis Obispo coach Jim Thompson said. “We played great defense and we will continue to get better on offense.”

The Tigers play against Wasco in the Corcoran Tournament on Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Ed Griley was the top scorer with 14 points for the Pirates, followed by Luke Munds with 13.

Arroyo Grande 54, Nipomo 50

The Eagles (1-1) walked away with a close win over the Titans.

Gunnar Gomez had a game-high 22 points and four 3-pointers for the Eagles.

Nipomo’s Ryan McNeil had 19 points with three 3-pointers.

Mission Prep 64, Paso Robles 46

Connor Woolpert scored a game-high 30 points for the Royals (3-0) as Mission Prep rolled over the visiting Bearcats (2-4).

Andy Rowley and Zach Allmon both scored 10 points, and Allmon had eight rebounds for Mission Prep.

Matt VanDyke led Paso Robles with 13 points. Josh Wilson Murray scored 12 and Jaylon Davis had 11 for the Bearcats.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Arroyo Grande 61, Nipomo 22

Emma Weinreich scored 16 points, and Lindsey Wolf scored 14 for the Eagles (3-1) as Arroyo Grande cruised to the big victory.

The Eagles outscored the Titans 33-10 in the first half.

Taylor Nevitt led Nipomo (0-4) with nine points.

BOYS SOCCER

Nipomo 1, Paso Robles 1

Caleb Doane scored to tie it early in the second half for the Titans (2-4-2) off an assist by Joel Diaz.

Erubey Ponce, who gave up a first-half goal when Daniel Jaimes scored for the Bearcats (4-0-3), had four saves for Nipomo.

San Luis Obispo 10, Morro Bay 0

Paul Sullivan scored five goals and assisted on two more to lead the Tigers (4-1-1) to the home victory over the Pirates.

Matt Connely added two goals, and three other players added one goal each for San Luis Obispo.

Coast Union 4, Sierra Pacific 1

Luis DeAlba scored three goals as the Broncos (2-0) beat the Golden Bears.

Oscar Catalan had one goal for Coast Union. Catalan, Jeu Arroyo and Victor Casas all had assists for the Broncos.

Juan Leonardo had four goalie saves.

Atascadero 1, Templeton 1

Pat Hammer scored the only goal for Atascadero (1-4-1).

Atascadero goalie David Hernandez had seven saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

San Luis Obispo 4, Morro Bay 1

The Tigers (3-0) rode a three-goal first half to down the Pirates (0-3).

Nora Zakaria, Sydney Knauer and Lydia Mello all scored in the first half for San Luis Obispo. Kristine Smith finished it off with a goal in the second half.

Sanja Peters had Morro Bay’s only goal.

Cabrillo 4, Arroyo Grande 2

The Eagles (2-1) held a 2-0 early in the second half, thanks to goals by Mallory Slatebo and Carly Chandless, but Arroyo Grande gave up three goals in the span of five minutes late to lose to the Conquistadores.

Laura Greene and Slatebo each recorded an assist for the Eagles.

Atascadero 5, Templeton 2

Savannah McCarthy scored twice, and Hannah McMillian contributed two goals and an assist to lead the Greyhounds (3-0) to the home victory Rhiannon Dudley added a goal and an assist for Atascadero.

Nipomo 1, Paso Robles 1

Emilee Brown scored the lone goal for the Bearcats (2-0-1).

Nipomo 10, Paso Robles 0

Shanae Lauridsen led the Titans (3-0) to a win with five goals.

Nipomo’s Jenna Corbin contributed two goals and Sara Clark, Stevie Deale, and Peri Budge each added one goal.

Nipomo led 5-0 at halftime and goalie Sami Barker stopped 12 shots.
