After 30 years in the same location in the Madonna Plaza Shopping Center in San Luis Obispo, All That Glitters jewelry store is moving, but its owners arent sure where theyre going.
The stores owner blames the new shopping center owner, Schottenstein Property Group, of Columbus, Ohio.
That company bought the roughly 319,000-square-foot shopping center in June.
The company that bought the mall is pushing out small businesses, All That Glitters CEO Travis McBurney said. Theyre in a small town, but they dont want small businesses.
The Tribunes calls to Schottenstein were not returned.
On its website, the company describes itself as an, owner, operator, acquirer and redeveloper of high quality, power/big box, community and neighborhood shopping centers in major population areas throughout the United States.
McBurney said he has to be out of his old location at the beginning of the year.
I would love to stay, but I dont think its in the cards, McBurney said.
Hes hoping to remain at Madonna Plaza, at a different location.
The 17,660 square-foot space that used to house Borders book store is still available. It is not known if the new mall owners have a tenant lined up to take that spot.
While McBurney is not sure where All That Glitters will move, hes certain the company will remain open for business.
Were still going to be in business. Were not going anywhere no matter what, McBurney said.
Schottenstein owns interest in more than 156 properties in 27 states in excess of 21 million square feet of gross leasable area, according to its website.
National retail tenants such as Bed, Bath & Beyond and Wal-Mart anchor many of the companys properties.
