The holiday spirit will take to the streets Friday as hundreds of people join in San Luis Obispo’s annual holiday parade.
The procession will wind its way through downtown San Luis Obispo starting at 7 p.m. with floats, bicycles, decorated cars and marching groups.
There are 103 entrants this year — the most in the parade’s history — including nonprofits, businesses, children’s groups and clubs.
The theme for this year’s 36th Annual Holiday Parade is a Bear-y Merry Holiday, a spin-off of Downtown Brown, the mascot of the San Luis Obispo weekly downtown farmers market.
Parade marshals Alex and Annie Gough will lead the celebration.
“A lot of time, effort and creativity has gone into this year’s entries,” said Sarah Ragan, promotions coordinator for the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association.
Participating in the parade has become a tradition for many — including local Girl Scout troops.
Rosanna Medeiros, a service unit manager for the local troops, said that this year about 100 girls will be decorating a flat-bed trailer, donning their pajamas and carrying their teddy bears while singing Christmas carols.
“For the girls it is the joy and excitement of getting ready for the holiday,” Medeiros said. “The parade is something for the community and done by the community to which they belong.”

Paso Robles’ 50th Annual Christmas Light Parade is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday.
Downtown streets close from 5:30 p.m. to the end of the parade. Its route goes through downtown and around City Park.
