  The Paso Robles Dog Jog will be Saturday in Paso Robles. Dogs can bring their owners for a 4k/2k run or walk through the Salinas River walk trail that starts and ends at the Kennedy Club Fitness in Paso Robles. The proceeds will benefit the new Sherwood Dog Park in Paso Robles.

  Race registration is $20. Participants of the 4k/2k race will receive a racer’s goodie bag, an event bandana for their dog and a medal. 4k/2k race starts at 9 a.m. Race day registration starts at 8 a.m. This event will be held rain or shine. Dogs must be on leash for this event.

  A few weeks ago, I shared Gloria Walter’s photo of her ragdoll cat Jackson sitting in a basket. A few days later, I received an email from Tim and Lynne Iseminger of Pismo Beach asking if I knew of any groomers in the area that specialized in grooming ragdoll cats.

  “My wife and I moved to Pismo beach from outside Sacramento in October and we have two 4-year-old ragdoll kitties, a brother and sister, Niko and Kukla. We have not been able to find any resources for ragdolls in this area.

  “It is awfully hard to find a groomer who really can handle a ragdoll. We have talked to several and they say ‘not a problem, we do cats all the time.’ We ask about ‘longhairs,’ and they slow down but say sure without a lot of conviction. Then you ask them about trimming paws and ears and brows (no/no’s), and you get a blank stare. It took us two years to find a groomer back home that had the experience and could groom ‘raggies.’”

  ‘I thought you might enjoy this photo of our ragdoll cat named Jackson. I was putting baskets together as holiday gifts with candy and fruit goodies when he decided to see if he could fit in one of the baskets. I’m sure he considered himself the ‘best gift basket of all.’

  “Jackson was adopted from a cat shelter in Hollister. He had been dropped in the night drop box at the humane society in Gilroy and then was placed in a local cat shelter. We saw his photo and immediately adopted him.

  “He is totally mellow and social and greets everyone who comes in the house.”

  Equality is fair

  Pamela Greene’s complaint about Christmas disappearing (“Merry Christmas,” Dec. 21) is the sound that the majority makes when others are granted their rights. I am a citizen of this country just like Ms. Greene, so our government should not officially promote some religious beliefs over others or over no belief at all. Equality for religious and secular holiday displays, not giving special favor to any particular belief, is fair.

  Ms. Greene is only talking about government and corporate celebrations of Christmas. No one is taking away her right to celebrate Christmas as a private citizen. When the government or some company breaks into her house and removes her Christmas tree so that she can’t celebrate Christmas, I will defend her rights.
