Like their counterparts in the eastern United States, certain trees in San Luis Obispo County change color in the fall as daylight dims.
Cooler nights also signal to trees that the peak of summer is over and they can rest. Green chlorophyll production comes to an end, revealing yellows, oranges and reds in the leaves.
