PG&E will hold three days of public workshops on Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant earthquake safety issues from Tuesday through Thursday in San Luis Obispo.
The three daylong sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, 333 Madonna Road. A public question-and-answer session is slated from 6 to 7 p.m. after each session.
The content of the workshops will be highly technical. It will include analysis of geological and geophysical data recently collected from onshore and offshore areas around Diablo Canyon.
The workshops are part of PG&Es efforts to update its seismic hazard analysis for the nuclear plant. The four-year update is a precondition to Diablo Canyon extending its operating licenses by 20 years to 2044 and 2045.
PG&E is conducting onshore seismic surveys as well as low-energy offshore surveys. High-energy offshore surveys will be done late next year because they require extensive environmental review from the state.
A similar set of technical workshops were held last year. They will be held annually for the four-year duration of the update.
A complete description of the seismic hazards update is available at www.diablocanyonpge.com.
