Volunteers prepare fixings for the feast

Volunteers filled boxes for 50 families with everything they’ll need for a Thanksgiving feast for 15 to 20 people: a 20-pound turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, yams, dinner rolls, marshmallows, apple pies and fruit.

Bernadette Delmore, the owner of Del’s Pizzeria in Shell Beach, coordinated the effort to bring in donations from local merchants, vendors, customers and family. About 15 volunteers met at the restaurant Tuesday to fill the boxes, and San Luis Obispo-based Meathead Movers offered to drive them to Oceano.

The families selected to receive the food — all of whom have students at Oceano Elementary School — picked them up Tuesday afternoon.

Thanksgiving holiday closures

The following services and agencies are affected because of Thanksgiving and extended observances:

Schools

• All K-12 schools are off today and Friday.

Government

• Federal offices are closed today. All state, county, city and community services district offices are closed today and Friday.

• Post offices are closed, with no delivery. Several offices will offer limited hours Friday; check with your local office.

Colleges

• Cuesta College is closed today through Saturday.

• Cal Poly is closed through Sunday. The Kennedy Library is closed through Saturday.

Other services

• Bank closures will vary. Stock markets are closed today.

• Libraries are closed today and Friday.

• Trash pickup is not affected in San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Cayucos or Cambria. Pickup in other cities may be delayed. Contact your garbage service provider for details.

• The Tribune office is closed today and Friday, but home delivery is not affected.
