UPDATE 2:10 p.m. Wednesday: The driver of a Ford Focus that collided with a blood bank bus Tuesday has been identified as 19-year-old Michelle Whittaker of San Luis Obispo. She is in critical condition at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, according to police.
The United Blood Services bus was driven by Christopher Godfrey, 29, also of San Luis Obispo. He wasnt injured.
UPDATE 11:55 p.m.: The driver of a car that collided with a blood bank bus in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday afternoon suffered serious injuries, police said.
The United Blood Services bus was heading south on Broad Street when a Ford Focus, which was turning left onto Broad from Fiero Lane, pulled out in front of it, according to a news release from San Luis Obispo police.
The vehicles collided, and the Focus went down a small embankment on the west side of Broad Street, police said. The bus also went off the road on the opposite side of Broad.
The driver of the Focus was extricated from the car and taken to French Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries, police said. The driver of the blood bank bus wasn't injured. Neither driver's name has been released.
Drugs or alcohol don't appear to be involved in the crash, police said.

Investigators say a United Blood Services bus collided with a car shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Fiero Lane and Broad Street in San Luis Obispo.
Investigators are asking motorists to avoid the area while they conduct their investigation and clean up the crash scene.
