With help from Tyler Genito, 22, left, Steven Brickell, 20, completes 53 sit-ups in two minutes under the supervision of Staff Sgt. Christopher Waugh as they and other new Army recruits take a physical training test last week at the Damon-Garcia Sports Fields in San Luis Obispo.

Genito and Brickell will both be shipping out to basic training within the next six months — Genito as a tank crewman and Brickell as an artillery crewman. Genito hopes the opportunity will help his goal of going into law enforcement, while Brickell sees it as a good option during a tough job market.

  • Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.
  • Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.
  • Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
  • Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
