Cal Poly students presented their ideas to city and county officials on how to improve transportation in San Luis Obispo at an event on campus Thursday, according to university officials.
The gathering, which was open to the public, took place from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. in Engineering (Building 13) Room 117.
The projects were developed by civil engineering and city and regional planning students taking a public transportation class.
John Webster, transit manager for the City of San Luis Obispo, suggested the primary objective for the projects, which are aimed at developing preferential treatment for city and regional public transportation.
Examples include traffic lights that stay green longer when they detect a bus approaching or bus lanes that can be used by taxis.
Students were asked to include features that promote public transportation and encourage walking and biking in San Luis Obispo. They were also asked to consider issues relevant to intersections.
