An Oceano resident has appealed the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission’s recent approval of a medical marijuana collective in the South County community.
Thursday was the deadline to appeal Tammy Murray’s plan to open Compassionate Cannabis Information Center at 1409 S. Fourth St.

The county Board of Supervisors would likely hear the appeal in early February, county Senior Planner Bill Robeson said.
In the past, medical marijuana dispensary appeals to the county board have not fared well. Supervisors have in the past three years shot down proposals in Nipomo and Templeton.
Barbara Mann, who filed the appeal, said she did so based on the project’s location — it’s in an area that allows light industrial uses but is surrounded by a sprinkling of homes and mini-storage facilities — and health and safety reasons.
She also objected to the commission’s decision to allow the project to move forward even though it fell short of the county’s requirements that medical marijuana facilities be at least 1,000 feet from any school, library, playground, recreation or youth center.
Murray’s collective would be 922 feet from Oceano Park. However, it is separated by Highway 1 and the railroad tracks and not visible from the park because the highway is 15 to 20 feet higher than Murray’s property, Robeson said in a previous interview.
Mann is chairwoman of the Oceano Advisory Council — and a former Oceano Community Services District board member — but she said she appealed on her behalf and numerous other residents who donated money to pay the $850 fee to appeal a project.
“I would hope that the supervisors realize that this is not the place for it,” Mann said.
Murray has proposed to operate a 470-square-foot collective in a 931-square-foot, single-family home. She could not be reached for comment.
The commission had voted 4-1 on Nov. 3 to support her project with a unique condition that commissioners review it in two years. Commissioner Tim Murphy, whose district includes Oceano, dissented.
