A storybook season for the Nipomo High boys water polo team came to an end Wednesday evening at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, as the Titans were upset by Don Lugo of Chino, 9-8, in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.
No other information on the game was available.

The Titans (22-5), the Los Padres League champion, were the division’s top seed.
In the championship game Saturday morning in Irvine, Don Lugo (21-5) will face second-seeded Nogales, which advanced with an 8-6 win over LPL rival Santa Ynez.

Coast Union to play Coastal Christian at Cuesta
The host site of the Southern Section Division 5A championship match between Coast Union (20-7) and Coastal Christian (19-2-1) has been moved to Cuesta College with the match to be played at 7 p.m. Friday.
The two Coast Valley League rivals traded sweeps earlier this season.
In their most recent encounter Nov. 1, the Conquerors won 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 to give the Broncos their only CVL defeat. That turnaround avenged a 25-13, 25-17, 25-22 Coast Union win Oct. 6.

Long Beach State announces McNeil signing
Nipomo senior Ryan McNeil verbally committed to Long Beach State this past year, and the 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher made it official this week, signing a letter of intent with the Dirtbags.
McNeil, who is expected to be a high-round MLB draft pick and has a fastball that has been clocked at 93 mph, is rated as the No. 34 recruit in the nation by Perfect Game and No. 54 by Baseball America.
“Ryan is an athletic, physical pitcher that we are excited to have join our program,” Long Beach State head coach Troy Buckley said in a news release issued Wednesday. “He is rated as one of the top high school arms, not only in California, but in the entire country. He will provide an immediate impact on the mound for us when he enrolls.”
He played at the Area Code Games in Long Beach from Aug. 5-10 and then at the Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego on Aug. 14.
McNeil’s older brother Jeff started for Long Beach State last year as a true freshman.
As a junior, Ryan helped lead the Titans (17-6) to a share of the Los Padres League championship and a first-round Division 5 playoff win. He was named the LPL’s MVP and to The Tribune’s all-county first team after finishing with a 1.40 ERA and 84 strikeouts.
