A planned dog park in Paso Robles may have found a new home. The Paso Robles City Council on Nov. 1 approved a change in location for the proposed park, moving it away from the Salinas River.
Last October, the council voted unanimously to reserve land at Larry Moore Park on Paso Robles’ eastside for Riverbank Dog Park. But opposition from residents there tanked the proposal.
A group of dog activists found their latest replacement site on city-owned property just east of the city’s senior center on Scott Street. The lease for the newly named Sherwood Dog Park would be through the San Luis Obispo Parks, Open Space & Trails Foundation with Parks-4-Pups as the organizing committee.
If approved, the new location would be temporarily built on 1.25 acres deemed for new tennis courts. The city currently doesn’t have money for courts.
Neighbors around the new site largely support the arrival of an off-leash area.
The council is set to consider a lease for the property at its Tuesday meeting.
