Mission Preps Zach Allmon was among three Cal Poly mens basketball signings announced Wednesday night by the Mustangs.
Allmon, a 6-foot-7 power forward, averaged 12.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks for the Royals a year ago while the program advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division 5AA semifinals and he earned an all-county first-team selection from The Tribune.
Cal Poly head coach Joe Callero said in a news release that Allmon has the size and skill to be the next David Hanson, alluding to the Mustangs all-Big West Conference senior. (Allmon) has a good motor and great passion for the game. I watched Zach improve last season and expect him to make steady progress at Cal Poly. I like his versatility from both the post and perimeter. Players such as Zach are hard to guard and can play well within our defensive philosophy.
Cal Poly also signed Plainfield East (Romeoville, Ill.) Highs 6-foot-9 center, Brian Bennett, and 6-8 forward Josh Hall of St. Johns Northwestern (Brush Prarie, Wash.) Military Academy.
