This cute teen won’t ask for the car keys

‘Being a teen is not easy, regardless of genus or species.

“Take Patrick, he’s seven months old and in transition from the cute kitten he was to the handsome cat he will become. As he grows into himself, he may not strike an adopter as handsome — his feet humorously turn out and his body is slightly too small for his head. But if one looks beyond first impressions, one sees how beautiful he is.

“Patrick has a luscious dilute gray and buff tabby coat with splashes of white. His eyes are luminous amber and his personality is an A+. Patrick is highly social with cats and people. He purrs loudly and rolls on his back to solicit pets from passersby. Being in foster care, he also shows he’s comfortable with cat-savvy dogs.

“The biggest hurdle Patrick faces is his age: cute, but no longer a fluffy kitten. However, Patrick still entertains people with his kitten-like antics and pleases them with his good house manners.

“To help homeless cats including Patrick to find a loving home, San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter volunteers and staff are hosting an adopt-a-pet event Saturday on the front lawn of the shelter from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Due to the large number of homeless cats, all feline adoption fees are half-price. Choose from lots of eight-week-old kittens, as well as teenagers and adults.

“Whether you adopt an earnest teen like Patrick, a fluff-ball kitten or a lovely adult cat you help another homeless feline by creating space at the shelter.”

The adoption fee is $75 for cats and $100 for dogs, plus a $23 county license fee for dogs if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents. The adoption fee includes spay or neuter, basic vaccinations, microchip, eligibility for a free veterinarian check, new collar and ID tag, and carrier for cats.

Join in on an afternoon of fundraising fun

Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a joint fundraiser for Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary for Healing and Learning and Second Chance at Love Humane Society, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It will be an afternoon of shopping at local stores along with wine, chocolate, olive oil, and cheese tasting while listening to music by Lance Robison, a raffle and tour of the facility.

Cambria’s Homeless Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.) presents Holiday Paws from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Photographer Megg McNamee will be taking pet and Santa photos. Ceramic artist Carol Jean Attoe will be capturing pet’s paw prints in fine art ceramic clay keepsakes called Love Paws. There will also be telepathic pet readings and book signings.
