The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is unveiling a new exhibit today featuring the uniform, medals and other memorabilia of Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg.
The museum will be open today from 1 to 3 p.m. to share the memorabilia, which will become a permanent exhibit.
Vandenberg was a combat pilot with the Army Air Corps during World War II and was the director of central intelligence and chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force. Vandenberg Air Force Base was named after him.
The collection was gifted to the museum by the general’s son, Maj. Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg Jr., to the Vandenberg Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars. Among some of the artifacts on display will be Vandenberg’s Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Silver Star, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star, photographs, a piece of the General’s B25J aircraft and his flags.
